Everything is Sunny at Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher

After what seemed like endlessly gray, wet weather (I guess that happens sometimes in Ireland in March), we were blessed with a magnificent sky on the one day that really mattered—our visit to the Cliffs of Moher.

On the edge of the Burren in County Clare, the Cliffs of Moher stretch for 8 undulating kilometers along Ireland’s west coast. Rising up to 700 feet above the ocean, the cliffs provide what is unquestionably one of the best views in Ireland. They are Ireland’s top natural attraction for good reason.

The visitor’s center here is fantastic. Exhibits detail the geology and 320-million-year history of the area. The multimedia displays talk in depth about the flora and fauna, and videos show the cliffs from the air and below the water. But the real highlight of a visit to the Cliffs of Moher is just the ability to wander along the cliffs’ edge and lose yourself in the swirling sea and rocky outcroppings.

Warning sign that says children must be supervised at all times

Thanks to the clear weather, we were able to take our time walking along the various points of the cliffs. As the spring wind whipped against our faces and the sun danced on the ocean’s surface, we enjoyed the amazing beauty that Ireland is known for. We headed out to see the view from O’Brien’s Tower and even caught a glimpse of the Aran Islands in the distance. A perfect day for a perfect visit.
