South America is the world’s fourth largest continent covering some 6.8 million square miles and spanning some of the world’s most diverse geographies. It covers the high mountain volcanoes of the Andes and low deserts. It includes the deep, lush jungles of the Amazon and the barren landscapes of Patagonia. And then there’s the salt plains of Bolivia and the wine regions of Chile and Argentina. And then there’s the famed beaches of Brazil and Uruguay.

Politically, South America suffered throughout the 20th century with wars and political strife. Those days are long over. Other than Brazil which speaks Spanish, it is a region that speaks a single, unified language: Spanish. This makes travel very easy. South America some of the best food on the planet. On our travels, we’ve fallen in love with both Peru and Ecuador. But this is a big continent and there’s a lot of places to explore. Here are some of our favorite articles.
